Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den gaming is illegal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is real of many borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling den, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that features a number of conveniences aside from the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
